Riding-a-Motorcycle-in-the-Summer

Riding during the summer months can be thrilling, but the extreme heat of Las Vegas undoubtedly presents some challenges.

The good news is, even if you’re an ATGATT (All The Gear, All The Time) guy or gal, if you’re sporting the right gear, you can stay cool and enjoy an excellent season with plenty of easy-going ride-time. Here are a few tips for a cool and enjoyable summer season.

If you have not already, consider investing in good, breathable hot-weather gear. It’s tempting to go out in shorts and a t-shirt, but well-ventilated gear affords excellent cooling capacity while also protecting you far, far better than if you’re dressed like a beach bum .

Here’s a few short hacks about selecting appropriate gear.

If you’re thinking about summer jackets, ventilated mesh is better than perforated leather for staying cool. Perhaps not as cool as an all-leather jacket style-wise, but will definitely keep you feeling cooler! Your socks are worth considering too. Moisture wicking socks will help keep your feet cool and dry. Also, don’t ditch the gloves. If you’re hands are getting too sweaty, it’s probably high-time for a good seasonal pair with decent ventilation properties, there are tons of great options available today.

Next, don’t forget water and sunscreen.

Obvious, but important; and your mom will thank you. And even when you assume you’re well-hydrated because you aren’t thirsty, remember to watch for signs of heat exhaustion. Lack of concentration, fatigue, cramps, and headache are all symptoms of creeping heat exhaustion–and good signs to take a break and drink more water.

Finally, be sure to keep all of the cooling components of your motorcycle well-maintained.

That means checking your coolant level is where it ought to be and your radiator and oil-cooler are clean and clear of debris and bug remains.

It can be easy to forget that it takes a little bit of seasonal prep. when the summer heat rolls in. But doing so will absolutely set you up for tons of awesome ride time during one of the best times of the year to enjoy your motorcycle.
